A Guide to Overgrips

This is a simple guide to the various types of overgrips that are available. There are many different brands of this type of grip, but they are similar, and your choice will be usually made after trying several different grips.

The basic grip usually has a smooth surface and you decide between an absorbent grip or a tacky surface. The next group either have a perforated or a patterned surface that is designed to improve the basic grip.

The top of the range of overgrips is usually described as a tournament grip. These are usually thinner for the best grip but normally need to be replaced more frequently.

Grip Notes

You will normally find the durability of an Overgrip is less than a replacement grip. The advantage is you should have a more secure grip that does not slip in your hand.

Overgrips are usually supplied in a pack of either three or four grips. They are sometimes supplied in larger quantities that should be slightly lower cost.

Most of the racket and string companies produce their own brand of grips. There are also a few specialist brands of grips such as Gripsy and Tournagrip.
