Tennis Elbow

Anyone who has suffered from tennis elbow will be aware how painful it can be. There are several possible causes, but one of them for some reason is frequently ignored. This is that it is the racquet which is often one of the main causes.

You could have been playing for several years without a problem, and have developed this condition over the past six months. If this applies to you, the reason is most likely to be either a new racquet, or using a string that is unsuitable.

The condition can only be eased by removing the cause of the problem. If you do not do this, you will go through a repeating cycle of Pain - Rest - Pain.

The cause of the problem is usually shock, or vibration created when you hit the ball. This is then transmitted through the frame to the player’s arm. This has to be reduced, so that it does not create a problem.

Tennis Elbow - notes

Your Racquet

Many players use a racquet that is often too light, or too stiff. This can create vibrations, which you may not always feel.
Note: some players can also develop a poor playing style by using an unsuitable racquet.

The Strings

Some strings are too stiff and create shock that is transmitted to the player’s arm. They need to use a string designed for comfort.
The best option is to use a natural gut string, but there are also some good synthetic strings available.

The Cost

There will obviously some cost involved in attempting to overcome the effects of tennis elbow. However, this is unavoidable if you want to continue playing with a reduced amount of pain.
