This page compares the prices of a selection of strings. It is mainly based on products in a mail order catalogue. You can usually obtain a discount if you purchase a larger quantity.

The examples used are to show prices of different types of strings. They are only a small selection of the strings that are available.

String Costs

The cost of your strings will obviously depend on how many hours play you have from a set of strings. A useful guide is to calculate the cost per hour of your strings.

A simple example is a string costing £10. If you use the string for 40 hours playing time, the cost is £0.25 per hour.

Wilson Synthetic Gut	This is a low priced string supplied in a 200 metre reel which is sufficient for 17 restrings. The price is £46.98 which is £2.76 per restring.
Prince Synthetic Gut	This is a medium priced string which costs £7.99 for one set. This is the length required to restring one racket.
Babolat Powergy	This brand is probably best known for their high quality gut strings. This is one of their synthetic strings. It is in the medium to high price range and costs £12.99 for one set.
Tecnifibre X-TRA Dynamic	This is from the French company who specialise in high performance synthetic strings. The cost is £15.99 for one set of string.
Natural Gut	This is the choice of most professional players. The cost is normally very high. A string such as Babolat VS Touch costs £29.99 which is about 25% discount to the normal retail price.
