About Strings

String Tension Ranges

The performance of a racket is influenced by the type of frame, the selected string and the tension of the strings. All three items are important and work together to give you the performance you need.

This section describes the influence of string tension on the performance of your racket. A lower tension normally gives you more power and higher tension greater control. This is described in more detail below.

Further Information

This page explains the different tension ranges.

It will only be of some use if you know the tension of the strings in your own racket. You can then experiment with lower or higher tensions.

String Tension Ranges

Low Tension

Players who use lower tensions usually have accurate shots and require more power. A lower tension can help reduce vibration in some rackets. This should help players who have arm or shoulder problems.

Medium Tension

The majority of players use medium tension as it provides them with good power and control of their shots. Many players would find they were hitting too

many balls out of court with a lower tension.

High Tension

Players use high tensions as it gives better ball control. There is normally less power, and it is usually less forgiving on off-centre shots. It is more suitable for players with a fast swing as they normally want extra control with their shots.
