| The Tensometer The principle used is very simple and measures the tension of the strings in your racket. A sensor is clipped the centre of the strings, you press a button and the tension is displayed in a few seconds.
The method used is similar in many ways to the player who gently hits the strings of their racket with the frame of another racket. This produces a tone at a particular frequency. A higher note represents tighter strings, and naturally a lower note indicates looser strings.
The Tensometer does this electronically. A range of frequencies is compared, and the one that most closely matches the response of your strings is selected. The Tensometer converts this selected frequency to a value that is displayed for you to see.
There have been several models of the Tensometer with each one designed for a different purpose. The main difference is how frequently you are likely to use it. A racket stringer will use one many times per day, and a player perhaps once a week. | Tensometer Models The two main models in 2004 will be the ERT 1000 for frequent use, and the new ERT 300. Players would normally use the ERT 300 as it is small and can be easily carried in their bag. Many stringers will also use this model, but others will prefer the ERT 1000 in their workshop. | ||||||||||||||||||
