String Selection Guide

Using the correct string and tension will produce the best performance from your racquet.

Tennis strings are divided into various categories. This should simplify the selection process.

When you have decided on one or two groups, look at the details.

Although some strings may appear to be expensive, for many players they are not. It all depends on how long they last.

String Groups - select your requirements

Comfort

These strings are mainly for players who have problems with their elbow, or shoulder. Some players may find a string from the performance, or all-round categories, to be suitable as they are often also comfortable in use.

Performance

More suitable for experienced players, than beginners. They should probably be the choice of players who prefer a faster style of game, requiring slightly more powerful shots.

All-Round

If you use a variety of shots, you probably need an All-Round string. These strings are designed to provide a good balance of power, comfort, and spin. They are suitable for a wide range of players.

Control 1

Players using more power normally use spin to control their shots. A stiffer string will help them to achieve extra control. Players in this group do not want to develop elbow, or shoulder problems often associated with stiffer strings.

Control 2

Players who use a large amount of spin for control often break strings frequently. They can often obtain the required performance by using a monofilament string. These strings can create elbow and shoulder problems, and should only be selected by experienced players.

Natural Gut

This is the best choice for comfort and performance. The problem can be the cost and durability which make it too expensive for some players. To find out if it is worth it, you need to try it!
